Why won't my cat drink from a bowl?
Two reasons dominate.
Instinct. Cats evolved avoiding still water, which in the wild is more likely to be contaminated. Moving water reads as fresh. This is why so many cats drink from taps.
Whisker fatigue. Whiskers are sensory organs. In a narrow or deep bowl they press against the sides constantly, which is uncomfortable enough that many cats simply drink less rather than deal with it.

Cats get most of their water from prey in the wild. On dry food they don't naturally compensate by drinking more, so they run chronically underhydrated. This concentrates urine, which is associated with crystals, blockages and long-term kidney strain.
